Your notes live in an Obsidian vault. They should stay there.
As of Znote 4.2, you can point Znote at any Obsidian vault and it just works. Not "import your notes" — open them. Same folder, same files, same links. Obsidian and Znote can run side by side on the same vault.
What "fully compatible" actually means
Obsidian compatibility is easy to claim and hard to deliver. Here's what Znote handles:
Wikilinks. [[Note name]] resolves the way Obsidian resolves it, including links to headings and blocks. Click through, rename, navigate — links stay intact.
Transclusions. ![[Another note]] embeds the target note inline, live. Embed a section, embed a whole note, and see the content where you're writing — not a broken syntax token.
Attachments. Images and files referenced from your notes display exactly as they do in Obsidian, wherever your vault stores them.
Your Obsidian configuration. Znote reads your vault's Obsidian settings and respects them — including how headings and links are handled. You configured your vault once. You shouldn't have to configure it twice.
Plain Markdown, non-destructively. Znote's editor never rewrites what it doesn't have to. Your files stay valid Markdown that Obsidian, Git, and every other tool can read. If you stop using Znote tomorrow, your vault doesn't notice.
Why open your vault in Znote at all?
Because Znote does two things Obsidian doesn't do out of the box:
- It runs code. Code blocks in Znote are executable — JavaScript, SQL, shell, API calls. A note isn't just documentation of a process; it can be the process.
- It reasons over your notes. Znote's AI works with your notes and your execution results as context. Fetch real data with a code block, then ask the AI to analyze it — inside the note.
Obsidian is where your knowledge lives. Znote makes it do work.
Nothing to migrate, nothing to break
Download Znote, open your vault folder, done. Your Obsidian setup is untouched. If it's not for you, close Znote — your vault is exactly as you left it.
